Living This Week’s Gospel:

Matthew 17:1–9

This week, we travel up the mountain with Peter, James and John, and see Jesus transfigured before us into his divine form. What hope this vision gives to us!  As we see Jesus suffer crucifixion and death in the coming weeks, we understand that this suffering is not the end, but the route to his true glory, as willed by God the Father.

The way of the cross is the way for Jesus to attain forever the divinity that’s revealed for a few minutes during the Transfiguration! We remember that the suffering of Holy Week, as well as the decision Jesus makes in last week’s Gospel to resist temptation and submit to God’s will, carries the fruits of eternal life.

In your prayer this week, ask God for this same vision so that you may see past your everyday sufferings, whatever form they may take, and realize that they are temporary and can be a path, much like Christ’s Passion, that leads you to holiness. Let this offer you consolation, and let these “transfiguration moments” fuel you for the challenges you face in daily life.
